hazeyjane is the creation of Kettering-based composer, guitarist and singer Chris Brown, the vehicle for the live musical expression of his own original songs and arrangements of celebrated pieces of poetry. Acoustic and ambient, hazeyjane present intense music of emotional intimacy and atmosphere. Chris’s melodies are founded on exquisite guitar figures and motifs – think Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, John Martyn and the like – using unusual tunings and chordal combinations as soundscapes for richly poetic lyrics.
Debut album, ONE, was recorded throughout 2015 by Chris and producer Ash Tu-kay, and was released in July 2016.
In late 2015, Kevin T Ward joined hazeyjane on fretless bass, adding rhythmic expression, texture, and colour to the songs and in 2017, renowned world percussionist David 'Hopi' Hopkins joined the band.
Recorded at David's Brittany studio, a live EP, Kanré, was released in May 2017 to coincide with the trio’s appearance on the main stage at Cromer’s Folk On The Pier festival.
In July 2018, the band played in an expanded five-piece format at The Stables in Milton Keynes, with additional vocalists Corinne Lucy and Stephen Jones, showcasing songs from the in-progress second album.
In March 2019, keyboardist Anna Plaminiak joined hazeyjane to further enhance the band’s unique sonic texture.
Sophomore album, Anima Rising, was released at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, on April 11th 2020. The launch event, held at Kettering Arts Centre was delayed until 18th September 2021.
